Carolyn Byrne is a co-founder of Storch Byrne and brings more than two decades of experience representing clients in all aspects of matrimonial and family law, including child custody and support, maintenance/spousal support, equitable distribution, and matrimonial agreements, among other matters. She is known as a trusted partner and advocate as she guides clients through a complex, emotional process. Central to Carolyn’s practice is her work to educate clients about all options, both in and outside the courtroom, so they can make the decision that is best for their family.

Carolyn brings a long track record of negotiating settlements as a preferred method of resolution; however, she is always prepared to take her cases to court, leveraging her significant courtroom experience and background in commercial litigation to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.

Carolyn also guides clients through other pathways to resolution, including mediation, which she believes is a constructive option for many families. She provides holistic counsel as clients prepare for mediation, identifying objectives, crafting talking points, and coaching clients prior to sessions. The positive outcomes she’s helped many clients achieve through mediation are a testament to the effectiveness of her strategic approach. Moreover, Carolyn is able to draw upon all of the business litigation assets of the firm when the scope of the matrimonial proceedings demand it.

Carolyn’s own commercial litigation experience also affords her a tactical advantage as an advisor and a meticulous approach that ensures superior service. Prior to dedicating her career to matrimonial law, she served as a litigation associate at both Battle Fowler LLP (merged with Paul Hastings LLP) and Vinson & Elkins LLP, which provided her with a strong background in all aspects of commercial litigation, particularly forensic accounting and business valuation issues. Her clients benefit from this expertise both in and outside the courtroom given the complex financial issues often involved in matrimonial disputes.

Carolyn understands that the problems presented by a marriage in crisis can feel unmanageable and unnavigable at first. But she draws on her years of experience to break the process down into smaller and more manageable steps, tackling them one by one in the most strategically advantageous sequence, and offering compassion and partnership every step of the way.

Carolyn received her J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law and her B.A. from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
